97 Points GOLD Halliday Wine Companion "Everything about this wine, I love: its elegance, its precision and definition. It feels light at first but flavours build, the cherries and pips, the sweet nutty spices, the dash of Campari and fleck of fresh herbs. It’s on the lighter side of medium bodied, with superfine, powdery tannins and matching acidity all heading to a lingering finish. Drink 2026-2038" - Jane Faulkner, Apr 2026

Ranked #2 2023 Pinot Noir from Macedon Ranges - The Real Review

97 Points  ★★★★★ The Real Review Recommended "Deep-ish red with a good purple tint; black cherry and blackberry aromas, the flavour bold and medium-full in body, with mysterious depths and plenty of tannin making for a more structured pinot. Foresty underbrush characters come with time in the glass. A bigger, more robust and concentrated style for this maker and promises to have a long and rewarding career. It's still emerging at this stage and shows great potential. Drink 2026-2038" - Huon Hooke, Feb 2025

    Description

The Block 5 vineyard is about half of one hectare in size on a sheltered, north facing, and very quartz riddled site. It is a wonderful natural vineyard exposition. The wine is always darker in fruit expression and immediately more spicy and earthy that the Original Vineyard. It is less immediately perfumed and has more tannin and fruit power. The wines from this vineyard require more bottle ageing to develop the same suppleness and delicacy as the Original Vineyard but even in their youth these wines are more profound.

The wine spends 15-17 months in French barrels of which about 35% are new. This wine is never oak driven but can certainly benefit from a higher percentage of new oak without being dominated by sappy, smoky oak elements.

Production typically varies from 150-200 dozen per vintage.

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Bindi Wines

By Michael Dhillon - Halliday’s Winemaker of the Year 2022

Magic in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria

Bindi is one of Australia’s most respected small estates, producing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of purity and finesse. Located 50 kilometres north-west of Melbourne in the Macedon Ranges, Bindi is not just a boutique vineyard. It’s actually a 170-hectare (ha) property of which 7ha are planted to vines—just pinot noir and chardonnay. Most of it is bushland, a section is reserved for important indigenous grasslands such as kangaroo grass, and 15ha are dedicated to a managed plantation of eucalypts (sugar gums) for high-grade furniture timber.

Bindi Wines fall under that category of “wines I would rather keep than sell.” The chardonnays are extraordinarily fine, precise, intense and beautiful, while the pinot noirs are a sensational group. The quality is very even, the style of the wines stunningly elegant, seamless and charming, but also profound. Charming pinot noir of depth is not that easy to find.
