ABOUT DAWSON JAMES
"Wine that is made for love, not profit” - James Halliday Dawson James was born of a friendship and winemaking partnership between Peter Dawson and Tim James. With a collective experience of more than 80 vintages, the opportunity of making world class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay drew them to Tasmania. The cool and dry climate, hungry soils and 30 + year-old vines grow grapes with great depth of flavour and intensity of character. Our winemaking philosophy is based on picking fruit with a natural balance of flavour and acidity. A very simple approach to winemaking allows fruit quality to shine through.

"Pale straw colour; milk powder and fresh pastry aromas, creamy and fresh but fruit is in the background. It's light bodied and reserved in the mouth, with a buttery note. Very restrained, with an appealing savouriness, a note of butter shortbread. Clean, dry finish. Good value in a drink-now chardonnay."

Dawson James
Quality and innovation have always been the driving forces behind winemakers Peter Dawson and Tim James. The grapes are grown on the Meadowbank vineyard, which is located approximately 60 kms north west of Hobart. Its rugged topography is bounded by the fast flowing, pristine waters of the Derwent river. Plantings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were first made in 1987. Vineyard patches selected for Dawson & James wines were planted in 1989 and vine age plays an important part in flavour development and the balance of the fruit. We remain utterly convinced that Australia’s finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir will be made in Tasmania and to be a part of that realisation is a challenge too great to resist.
We offer free shipping to most of Australia for all orders over $199 or $12 flat rate for orders under. Some regional areas may incur an extra shipping charge which is calculated at checkout based on your postcode.
