    Description

Due to the Farr’s love of Soave and the desire to drink their own wine, Garganega was planted.  It sits on a north facing slope atop grey sandy loam, with underlying limestone and an ironstone base. The wine is naturally fermented, 50% occurring in tank and 50% in 1 year old oak barrels, before being bottled 10 months later. The choice to split the ferment between tank and barrel allows for a refined acidity, whilst continuing to develop complexity.

    Description

The Farr Rising Garganega is a new, distinctive white wine from the renowned Geelong-based By Farr team, featuring high natural acidity, citrus, and stone fruit notes with a textured, mineral-driven palate. It represents a rare Australian expression of this Italian variety, fermented with 50% in new oak to balance its crisp,, savoury, and fresh character.

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    By Farr

The Real Review Winery of the Year 2022, Wine by Farr, is the pre-eminent winery in the Geelong region, its vineyards and winery located at Bannockburn in the Moorabool Valley just outside Geelong city. Nick Farr was Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine’s Winemaker of the Year in 2020, but he is always quick to emphasise that By Farr is a family affair and the wines are a team effort. Indeed, Gary Farr won the same award back in 2001. It’s the only two-generation winning combination. But the Farrs shrink from the idea that the winemaker is some kind of hero: it’s the grape and the land that are important. The Farrs only make wine from their own grapes and are true vignerons in the French sense – they grow the grapes, make the wine, mature and bottle it. Everything is done on-site.
