    Description

It’s so great to be able to work with grapes that are as loved and meticulously farmed as these twenty-seven year old vines from the boniest and highest section of the Turnbull Family Vineyard in Charleston. This is the second rendition of this wine and its a ripper. Some more meatiness and red fruit than the cool and late 2023 vintage, but still showing plenty of delicate aromatics, spiciness and tannins. Its such a great variety for the region and we hope to see more of it going into the ground and mouths in the future.

    What The Critics Say
"This is so pure and focused, with bright, lifted aromas of red fruit, ferrous earth, crushed stones, citrus peel, fresh herbs and spices. The palate is textural and refined, with long, silky tannins that coat the mouth and lead to a mouthwatering finish. Grown at 460 meters, this spends four months on the skins, with only the free-run juice aged in terra cotta before blending into oak prior to bottling. A great sangiovese with remarkable complexity and purity. Drink or hold."

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Gentle Folk

The Real Review's Rising Star of the Year Australia 2025

Gareth and Rainbo Belton have grown the reputation of Gentle Folk to the point where their wines are now among the most in-demand in all of Australian wine. This is a case of gentle folk making gentle wines, but there’s more to it than that: both Gareth and Rainbo are also marine scientists, their (PhD) specialty being marine plants (seaweeds), and there’s a sense to everything that they do that the natural order and way of things is their chief informant. The Adelaide Hills region has been crucial – indeed, the driver – of the Australian 'progressive wine' movement, and Gentle Folk has been a quiet but inspiring ingredient thereof.

The wines ooze a natural charm that only inspired farming practices and sensitive winemaking can deliver. Gentle Folk are truly unique Australian wines that express their origins and the ethos of their dedicated thoughtful maker.  And yes, they sell out fast!
