Description
92-94 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate "The 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape Habemus Papam is a 60-40 blend of Grenache and Syrah. It's a complex, savory vintage for this wine, with notes of smoke, leather, cracked pepper, allspice and menthol all figuring into the mix. It's medium to full-bodied and firm on the mid-palate, then softly tannic on the long, mouthwatering finish. Drink 2023-2035"
This label is a tribute to Jean XXII, a native of Cahors, who was the first pope to choose Avignon as the Papal residence and build a new castle (château neuf) in the place that should become Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wine is a hand picked blend of Grenache (64%), Syrah (25%), Mourvedre (10%) & Counoise (1%) grown on sandy clay, safre soils, ancient alluvial and molassic sands. Before release the wine spends 18 months in large foudres and terracotta jars.
