    Topaque of Rutherglen is a world-renowned wine style, recognised for its rich history and distinct flavours, unique to the Rutherglen region. This critically-acclaimed style is classified using a tiered system that showcases the progression in richness, complexity, age, and intensity of flavour. The four tiers provide a roadmap for understanding the wine’s development, from its bright, youthful expression to its most complex and aged forms.

    While age plays a key role in determining classification, it’s not the only factor. Each producer develops a unique “House Style” within the system, creating a signature flavour that reflects their winemaking philosophy. Stanton & Killeen is proud to be one of only six houses globally that produces all four tiers of this iconic wine, with each tier offering a distinct level of complexity and depth.

    With over 100 years of family winemaking, Topaque of Rutherglen represents a proud heritage of artistry and craftsmanship. The blending skills required to produce this exceptional wine have been passed down through generations, with winemakers carefully honing their techniques to share the richness and history of Topaque with enthusiasts around the world.

    Stanton & Killeen

    Stanton and Killeen Vintage Fortified (previously Vintage Port) is made from grapes picked in a single vintage year, which during the wine making process, has carefully selected grape spirit added to it, resulting in a final alcohol content of about 18.5%.

    Following almost two years in premium oak, the fortified is bottled. It then requires 10-20 years bottle ageing before it is fully matured and ready to drink.
    Stanton & Killeen have crafted a Vintage Fortified unlike most others produced in Australia. The Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified has evolved into a dryer more elegant style, this has occurred with the introduction of Portuguese Port grape varieties added to those traditionally used in Australia.

    The business is now owned and run by 7th-generation vigneron Natasha Killeen and her mother and CEO, Wendy Killeen. Fortifieds are a strong focus for the winery with around half of its production dedicated to this style. Their vineyards comprise 14 varieties, including 7 Portuguese cultivars used for both fortified and table wine production. A vineyard rejuvenation program has been implemented since '14, focusing on sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. South African winemaker Adriaan Foot joined in Jan '23.
