Medium-full red with a good tint of purple; the bouquet is reticent at first while soft sweet, darker cherry flavours run through the finely textured and balanced palate. The tannins are firmer than most Bindi pinots and the wine has a more blocky structure, relatively speaking. Good depth of flavour and fine balance. Description
The Block 8 vineyard is 3/4 of a hectare in size on a sheltered, north-west facing, and very quartz riddled site with some fertile volcanic soils. The eighth block planted at Bindi has a grandstand exposition sweeping down the mid slope. Here there are mostly 11,300 vines per hectare with a Crazy section at 22,600 vines per hectare featuring seven clones. The wines from this vineyard are compelling and delicious when young and as history has shown, going back to the 1992 Bindi Pinot Noir, the wines age exceptionally well from the beginning and drink beautifully for a long time.
The wine spends 15-17 months in French barrels of which about 50% are new. The Block 8 wine has exceptional fruit depth and earthiness and is intensely structured, very long and ageworthy.
Production typically varies from 125-200 dozen per vintage.

Bindi is one of Australia’s most respected small estates, producing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of purity and finesse. Located 50 kilometres north-west of Melbourne in the Macedon Ranges, Bindi is not just a boutique vineyard. It’s actually a 170-hectare (ha) property of which 7ha are planted to vines—just pinot noir and chardonnay. Most of it is bushland, a section is reserved for important indigenous grasslands such as kangaroo grass, and 15ha are dedicated to a managed plantation of eucalypts (sugar gums) for high-grade furniture timber.
Bindi Wines fall under that category of “wines I would rather keep than sell.” The chardonnays are extraordinarily fine, precise, intense and beautiful, while the pinot noirs are a sensational group. The quality is very even, the style of the wines stunningly elegant, seamless and charming, but also profound. Charming pinot noir of depth is not that easy to find.
