91 Points, Campbell Mattinson "This is an elegant chardonnay with hay, nectarine, nashi pear and brine characters running the length of the palate. It feels zippy throughoul, and welcoming, though there's also a gentle slip of texture and the finish is well extended. It's textbook, in a good way. This is drinking well now but it should be better again with another 12-18 months extra Lime in the bottle."

Winemaker Notes: Grown on an elevated slope of our Kenton Valley Vineyard, high in the Adelaide Hills, the VS Chardonnay fruit comes from a shoot thinned section of the block. This gives rise to an even ripeness and a slightly lower yield, picked to retain natural acidity and bright fruit flavours. Produced from free run juice only and allowed to settle only slightly in order to remove all the heavy solids. The solids were left in the juice to add texture and flavour to the finished wine. From there the batch was fermented with a yeast to enhance the mouthfeel and stonefruit characters. Leaving the wine on lees it was aged in different vessels; concrete egg to add minerality and mouthfeel, used French oak with lees stirring for texture and complexity and stainless steel on lees to create a creamy mouthfeel

Tasting Notes: The Chardonnay is a bright, fresh and lively easy drinking aromatic style. It has aromatics of lemon citrus and ruby grapefruit that dominate the nose. The full-bodied palate offers fleshy white fruits of ripe nectarines, peaches and freshly grated lemon zest. The maturation has produced a complex, rounded finish of brioche, lime blossom and baked spice.

5 STARS WINERY AWARD - JAMES HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION

"Every year, tasting the new releases of Mike Press Wines fills me with a sense of wonder: how is it possible that such BEAUTIFULLY MADE WINES should have such IMPOSSIBLY LOW PRICES? - James Halliday

After working in the South Australian wine industry for over 40 years – from Penfolds under Max Schubert, to Seppelt, and finally to Mildara Blass as chief winemaker – Mike purchased the property in Kenton Valley, near Lobethal in the Adelaide Hills, in 1998. The family company has been proud to have set the benchmark for producing quality wine at an outstanding prices. What started out as an idyllic retirement plan for Mike and Judy Press, became a thriving business offering amazingly affordable wines to Australia and then to the world. In 2017, Bob and Yuko Harris, a couple who were just as passionate about wine and South Australia, purchased Mike Press Wines and continue the great legacy.
