95 Points GOLD Halliday "The comes fruit from the Nenagh Park vineyard, established on an east-facing block west of Yarra Glen by viticulturist Stephen Sadlier in '89. 25% whole bunches. A light, bright garnet. An autumnal, perfumed bouquet featuring wild strawberry and pomegranate together with potpourri and sous bois scents. Delicate and structured on the nicely persistent palate. It's a touch closed at present, but will unfurl gracefully over the next one to two years and will continue to become more complex over the journey." - Phillip Rich, Jul 2025

    Description

This wine is from the original planting of MV6 Pinot Noir, plus a proportion of newer plantings of 848, MV6, 943 and Pommard clone. We added about 30% whole bunch in the ferments in 2024, which has given the wine quite a punchy and fragrant aroma, that evolves nicely as the wine sits in the glass. It was aged in 500 litre French oak puncheons, on lees for 11 months. 25% new Tronçais oak.

The bouquet is dominated by the darker cherry and a plummy hint coupled with red fruit spectrum, strawberry, raspberry, spice, cherry, with detailed fragrance and floral notes.

The new clones are adding an extra level of extract and tannic concentration which is exciting, the palate is tightly wound but underneath a silky and voluminous mouthfeel. Serious extract and density.

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Serrat

Serrat: A Catalonian word meaning high density planting. Serrat has 6,600 vines per hectare, producing less than one bottle of wine per vine.

Serrat is a family-run vineyard in Yarra Valley, founded by renowned winemaker Tom Carson and his wife Nadège. Known for their ultra-high-density plantings and precision winemaking, Serrat produces limited, estate-grown wines that reflect the true character of their site. With a diverse mix of varieties, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Grenache, Nebbiolo. The wines are vibrant, textural, and highly sought after. Considered a cult winery in Australia, Serrat has a strong following and a waiting list for its coveted membership.

Vigneron Tom Carson – who was the 2023 Halliday Viticulturist of the Year – has long been revered within the industry, with James Halliday noting, “As well as being a consummate winemaker, Tom has one of the best palates in Australia and a deep understanding of the fine wines of the world.”
